COMMENTARY ON THE LIFE OF ONESIPHORUS.

Four Lessons From His Life.
____
“May the Lord show mercy to the
household of Onesiphorus, because he often
refreshed me and was not ashamed of my
chains. On the contrary, when he was in
Rome, he searched hard for me until he
found me. May the Lord grant that he will
find mercy from the Lord on that day! You
know very well in how many ways he helped
me in Ephesus” 2 Timothy 1:16-18

Onesiphorus whose name means profit bearer, one who brings profit, or one who is useful and helpful is mentioned in Paul’s letter to Timothy. He and his family stands out to be a very special people. Paul had to pray for God’s kindness over his life.

It was a heartfelt prayer because this man touched God’s heart by “being there” for Paul.

Lots of believers want prayers and blessing but offer weak commitment to the cause of Messiah. Onesiphorus life is worth emulating.

1. He was a man of the overflow: Paul’s life and ministry was often being refreshed by him. He poured himself out to Paul’s ministry.

2.  Acceptance without Hypocrisy:  He accepted Paul without feeling ashamed of where Paul was. Some people want recognition and association with people doing well, but even with Paul’s chain and imprisonment Onesiphorus appreciated him.

3. Going Extra Mile:
When last did you have a friend who can go the extra mile for you. People are becoming too busy and self centred they can’t make any sacrifices for others but not Onesiphorus. When he was in Rome he searched hard for Paul until he found him.

4. A Helper:  When needs arrive in your life can those around you go any extent to help you?
Onesiphorus was a helper. He didn’t just say, “Paul, I am praying for you”, No! But in many ways he helped Paul.  Don’t just stay in your comfort and say I am praying. Learn from Onesiphorus and learn the power of going the extra miles for others…

Paul’s Prayer For Onesiphorus!

Not all prayer carry the same degree of power. But Paul’s prayer for Onesiphorus was powerful.
Paul prayed for him to be shown mercy- special kindness on that day!
What day? The day in which he will equally need help.  There are prayers you will only receive after you touch the heart of a man of God. Not being around him with your lips. Onesiphorus was with Paul with his heart; even in prison, in Rome, or in Ephesus he was there for Paul.

Its time to live life from the extra mile! Every one of us need a Onesiphorus but first we must be a Onesiphorus for another.
